2007-01-16 - 11:49 p.m. I was sorry to hear this morning that Myrtle Murgatroyd died yesterday. Mrs. Murgatroyd was this incredible lady who went to our church in Rocky. She was 103 when she died, and up until recently she was living alone in her own house. This is the lady who was in a band at 90, and dancing the macarana at 95. When I was home at Christmas she seemed to have gotten older, and when I mentioned that to Mom later she said that Mrs. Murgatroyd at 103 was like most folks at 80. Once, when I was a teenager, and slouching around as most teenagers do, she corralled me after church. "Have you ever noticed the way you walk? You slouch!! You should walk straight- it will make you look taller." Then she told me about learning to walk with a book on her head, and how she wasn't going to do that to me, but I should really walk straighter. After that I made an effort to straighten up around her, and eventually, I stopped slouching. She was a great lady, and she will be missed.
