2007-01-21 - 11:39 p.m. Well, that was easy. Somewhat to my surprise I managed to stroll down this week and get a job at the same restaurant that I was at before I left. They were really nice, and all the managers remembered me, which was helpful. They told me that I could be on the schedule for next week, but the owner just called and gave me three shifts for this week. I'm hoping for a low key two or three nights a week, something to bolster the income without upping the stress too much. I'm a little apprehensive about starting this and the church job at the same time, but what the heck. I don't like doing things halfway, after all, and it doesn't come much less halfway than two jobs at once after six months off. I had a good talk with Jesse last night for the first time since I've been back on the coast. It's funny, now that we're back and I'm telling people all the stories, but I know that he's the only one that knows what it was like. We don't even have to tell stories, just one word reminisces. I guess it makes sense and all, and it's not exactly an earth shattering conclusion that the fellow you traveled with for six months is the one who best understands the trip. I hadn't thought about it though, and it took me by surprise. Life in the new apartment is going swimmingly. I will be glad to get a few shifts in at the restaurant, as I'm getting a little sick of being here all the time. This Friday we bought the pay per view game on the big screen TV, and had a bunch of people over to watch it. The Canucks managed to lose, but it was a great game, and it went to a shootout, so that was a little bit of alright. Other major upsides to this place include a dishwasher (what an unknown luxury!) insuite laundry (if you can believe it!!) and, best of all, a newspaper subscription. Sure it's only the Times-Colonist, hardly a heavyweight in the national news department, but they have a decent comics section, and you can only ask so much. We started up floor hockey last week as well. I figured that I would be in awesome shape, after all that walking in Europe. I had visions of coming back and running rings around everyone there, impressing them with my new found skill and energy. Five minutes into the game I was gasping like a goldfish, and all that walking did nothing to improve my shot. It was a great game though, fast paced, with just enough rough stuff to keep it interesting.
