2008-09-01 - 6:50 p.m. Well, I've survived the move to Vancouver! I was a bit worried about the ferries, since they've been having so much trouble lately, so decided to take an earlier one across. My friends Jeff and Kim moved me over, using Kim's ever handy pick up. We caught the 8:00 ferry, and there were no problems, really, and we were at UBC by 10:30. The school is at UBC, tucked away at the north end of the campus. There isn't much too it, three or four buildings is all they need. The classes and offices are all in the "castle", which really does look like a castle. I always wondered, hearing people talking about the castle, what they meant, and then today, we drove past it, and it all clicked. It's, well, a castle. My suite is in Somervile House, which is the residence beside the castle. It's a studio apartment, which really means bachelor - not much floor space, but the ceilings are high, so the place feels pretty spacious. I like it. There's plenty of storage, although some of it is pretty high up. I'm not a tall guy, so Jeff and I went out and bought a ladder so I can put my luggage etc. away. Lots of unpacking etc. to do, but we managed to get all my stuff here by 11:30! I was pretty impressed. We dropped Kim off downtown, and Jeff and I had lunch, bought some necessary things, like groceries, and explored UBC a little. He left a couple hours ago. Orientation starts on Wednesday, and classes the following Monday, so I should have lots of time to settle in.
