I just got back from paying my tuition, which was a uncharacteristically pleasant experience. Normally, of course, the handing over of large sums of money is not my favorite thing to do on a Friday morning, but since I qualified for a bursary from the school to the tune of half my tuition, the whole process was easier.

I'm theoretically going to spend today working on a paper on the history and theology of the Eucharist in Anglicanism. This is a pretty broad topic, since Anglicans, especially in recent years, tend to believe whatever they want. How do you summarize a church that incorporates evangelicals, liberals, and anglo-catholics, often within the same congregation, and occasionally within the same person? I don't know yet, but I guess I'll be finding out.

I had the pleasant experience of reconnecting with a very old friend last weekend. Tanya and I have known each other since kindergarten, and for the first time since high school found ourselves living reasonably near each other. Well, relatively near each other, anyway. She lives in Abbotsford, which is a ways away by lower mainland distances, but close enough to make it worthwhile to get together.

We took a sea bus to the Lonsdale Quay, which is a little marketish thing across the water from downtown Vancouver. Being from Alberta, I get excited just being on a boat, or even near a stretch of water bigger than Crimson Lake. You can take the boy out of Alberta, but you sure can't take the Alberta out of the boy it seems.

I also managed last weekend to make it to church for the first time since moving here. I went to St. Mary's, Kerrisdale, the site of the hugging young adults group. I was pleased to find that no one insisted on hugging me during the service. It was a baptism, which was nice. I was in a pew near the back, next to a pillar, which was blocking one end of the pew. The other people in the pew didn't want to go for communion, which meant that I had to squeeze past them to get out... slightly awkward. Still, it was a nice service.

I'm going to try and move around a bit in terms of church on Sunday for now. Beginning at the end of October, I'll be in a field placement, so this is my opportunity to see what other Anglicans in Vancouver do.
