2009-03-03 - 5:32 p.m. I'm getting a bit tired of opening every post with a remark about how little I post. I keep planning on posting, and then keep not doing it. Anyway. It's been a pretty busy semester. I'm in six classes again, but there seems to be a bit more work in terms of papers and readings than last semester. Part of it is that last semester I had things like Spiritual Formation, which was interesting and helpful, and almost no work. Anyway, none of it is overwhelming, as long as I keep up with it, but it does leave me not wanting to look at my computer at the end of the day! It's not been all work though. I made it to Victoria this past weekend. We're on reading break now, and I thought I could use a break, so I went over on Thursday night. Jeff and Kirsten awesomely hosted me again. We managed to set up a little poker game for Friday night. I was hoping to help finance my trip, but ended up losing. Still lots of fun though. And I did better than I usually do, which is to say that I didn't end up dead last. Sunday morning Jeff and Kirsten were going to the Arbutus Christian Fellowship, which is (I think) a non-denominational bapisty style church. Anyway, a friend of theirs was leading worship. I decided to go along, since I thought I could use a break from the whole Anglican scene for a week. The service was OK, but it reminded me why I like the whole Anglican scene. I have nothing against these churches, but I find that the services are a bit random for my taste: we started out with lots of singing, then had communion (during which the actual story of the last supper was conspicuously absent. After communion, we had another song, then greeted each other, more songs, some announcements (only two or three, but it took fifteen minutes, because they had to tell the whole back story of the announcement) then a Scripture reading, then the sermon (which was promised to be short, and came in at 25 minutes, with a five minute introduction). After the sermon, another couple songs, and that was it. I felt very mixed up at the end of it all! The community there seemed good, from what I saw, and people were happy to be there, and there were lots and lots of younger people. I thought the sermon seemed a bit simple (the theme being "when God calls, go!") but that is not always a bad thing. After church we were treated to a wonderful lunch at the Gibb's house, and I caught the 5:00 ferry back. Now I've been home for almost two days, and haven't gotten too much work done. So much for reading break being when I get all caught up/work ahead. Maybe tomorrow...
